Setting the bar for hardcore road-going 911s, the GT2 was brought back for the 2001 model year during the 996 series, Porsche’s first water-cooled generation for the 911. During its first year, the 996 GT2 was not offered in the US, making this example a rare sight on these shores.

Rarity, however, was not the only name of the game for the GT2. For the 996 generation, Porsche used the GT3’s 3.6-liter engine in turbocharged form to make 456 bhp. Weight was reduced by nearly 200 pounds and handling was improved by stiffer springs as well as adjustable front and rear suspension. According to the documents included with the sale, this striking GT2 was factory finished in Artic Silver Metallic and boasts an impressive list of options. This European specification example was federalized in August 2001, and is believed by the consignor to be among the first 996 GT2’s to be imported to the US. Purchased by Lloyd Hawkins in 2005, this example has been tastefully upgraded, sporting later model front struts, springs, and wheels. Further, the sport seats have been replaced by factory race buckets and a factory Porsche roll bar was installed. Currently displaying approximately 8,300 miles and regularly maintained by Hawkins’ in-house mechanics, this GT2 is offered with its Porsche COA, CARFAX Vehicle History Report, and federalization documents.

Tasteful upgrades, coupled with limited use and thoughtful consistent care, make this 996 GT2 the perfect addition to any enthusiast’s garage.
