Born from a long-held interest in agricultural equipment, Ferdinand Porsche was keen to manufacture tractors under the Porsche banner. However, as only those companies who had commercially sold tractors during World War II were allowed to continue production post-war, Porsche licensed its Porsche-Diesel engines to the manufacturer Allgaier. The first Allgaier-System Porsche tractor was presented at the Frankfurt Agricultural Show in 1950 and was a huge success. Allgaier’s single-cylinder A111 model, capable of 12 horsepower, was manufactured from 1952 to 1955. In 1956, Mannesmann AG bought the licence for the Allgaier tractor design and the Porsche-Diesel engine design. Operating from 1956 to 1963, over 120,000 Porsche-Diesel tractors, as they were then known, were sold. Built in 1956, this Porsche-Diesel A111 ‘Junior’ represents a continuation of the earlier Allgaier design, with the latter’s name removed, save for the “A” in the model code. Powered by its 822-cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, this model later became nicknamed ‘Junior’ due to its small size. The A111 offered here has been restored and presents nicely in the classic red over cream combination.
