The attributes which have always been chiefly responsible for Porsche’s amazing successes, also ensure the 911 Turbo’s everyday practicality, reliability, superb quality, and safety. Moreover, what made Porsche’s racing cars so fast on the circuit, makes the 911 Turbo so enjoyable to drive – superior performance, outstanding acceleration, and the marque’s characteristically excellent roadholding, braking and cornering ability.
As in the racing Turbos, the hot boost air is cooled on its way from the charger to the butterfly valve by an intercooler. This ensures that maximum air pressure and optimum filling of the cylinders in maintained under all circumstances. The 911 Turbo’s performance was very impressive, with the Turbo producing 300 bhp and 430 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, enabled by its air-cooled, 6-cylinder with exhaust gas turbocharger. It accelerated from 0-62 mph in 5.4 seconds and had a maximum speed of more than 160 mph.
