A two (2) owner, Southern California 356, finished in its original color combination of Ivory over Red leatherette interior. Hammon Volkswagen Sales and Service in Idaho Falls, Idaho sold this 356B Karmann Coupe to the first owner, Walter E. Rein, on July 13, 1963. Optional equipment from the factory included Dunlop tires.
In accordance with the original Porsche Service booklet, Mr. Rein, took delivery of his 356B on July 13, 1963, from Hammon Volkswagen Sales and Service in Idaho Falls. Inside the original Porsche, service booklet is a checklist of items that should be checked at each service milestone. The service booklet indicates that the services were conducted at the recommended service mileage, and Mr. Rein also followed and checked each item off the lubrication plan and inspection checklists. Mr. Rein continued this level of maintenance for the first 60k miles recorded throughout dealer-supplied Service Booklet I and Service Booklet II. In addition to the meticulous record keeping of vehicle services, he also kept a detailed log of gas fill-ups in a small notebook. The final service recorded in the Service Booklet was on June 3, 1972, at 59,930 miles and the final gas log was recorded on March 13, 2000, at 77,441 miles. By 2005, the vehicle was sold by European Collectibles to its previous owner of 17 years. During his ownership, the 356 was primarily maintained by Jack Staggs Vintage Specialist in San Clemente California. On June 18, 2021, at 113,242 miles, Cape Auto Repair and Service was commissioned to perform an engine oil and filter change, adjust valves, replace valve cover gaskets, replace cap and rotor, adjust timing, adjust dwell, and tune the carburetors. The braking system was overhauled with new front wheel cylinders, front brake shoes, front wheel bearings, and the brake fluid was flushed and serviced.
