1965 Porsche 356C Coupe

This stunning, 1965 356C Coupe represents the last iteration of the 356. ‚Time Capsule‘ is a description regularly used and too frequently abused to describe a classic automobile. The term has never been more appropriate than for this 356C Coupe. Owned by the same family for four decades, this example is very original with amazing Ruby Red paint, original black interior, brightwork, glass, window trim and seals, five Lemmerz steel wheels, all date-coded 07/64, and dealer-installed air conditioning with new compressor and dry that blows ice cold. The number ’74‘ stamped on the deck lid and front bonnet reflect the last two digits of the serial number.

Das Fahrzeug im Detail

The condition of this car, with perfect gaps and panel fit, confirms the 46k odometer reading. Its factory replacement engine is confirmed on the Porsche Kardex. This final-year model offered a number of improvements over the 356B including an air intake vent on the cowl that provided better ventilation to the cabin, and a modified heating system that allowed fresh air to be blended and directed with heat the engine produced. An electric tach replaced the mechanical version. The fuel tank was revised to a flat profile, becoming the floor of the trunk. Twin engine grilles improved cooling.

The deep red exterior of this 356C is complemented by 15” Vredestein Sprint Classic tires (purchased 2022) mounted on painted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps adorned with the Porsche Crest, with chrome bumper guards, chrome/rubber deco trim and side deco trim, chrome driver side mirror, and a chrome luggage rack.

The black interior features VDO gauges including a dash-mounted clock, a black VDM steering wheel with a horn button, an upper-dash mounted fresh air control, and Blaupunkt AM/FM/SW radio with speakers. Vents for the dealer-installed air conditioning unit are discreetly placed beneath the dash adjacent to the pullout ashtray.

The four-cylinder, air-cooled 1.6L engine fitted with 32 Zenith carburetors produces 75 HP. Power is directed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. With an updated dual master brake system, its four-wheel disc brakes (ATE) provide fade-free stopping power superior to previous generations‘ drum brakes. Simply put this is an amazing original example of a 356C Coupe that is ready to enjoy with rare air conditioning.
