This 356 Convertible was originally an Ivory example with a brown leather interior. CPR Classic began the restoration of this Convertible D prior to it selling to a long time collector client, who chose the color combination this Convertible D wears.
Its restoration began with the tub being stripped entirely to bare metal by hand. Then all of the metalwork was performed to include panel replacement, proper lead work and fitting all gaps and body lines to factory specifications. Once the metal work was completed, the car moved on to our paint and body prep department where hundreds of hours were spent sealing, priming and blocking the car to ensure absolutely arrow straight bodywork and fit throughout. Once the body was completely prepped, it was finished in 90-line Glasurit two-stage Porsche factory silver.
Assembly then commenced using the highest quality parts available. All of the car’s hardware was refinished and replated to factory standards. OEM parts were used where possible, and the highest quality reproduction parts were utilized otherwise. During the restoration process, the original client decided to make a few changes beyond the stock specifications, including:
-12 volt conversion
-Modified 356SC spec engine with big bore kit, modified cam – 100HP
-Tall 4th gear for ease of highway cruising
-Front and rear overriders & bumper guards deleted for aesthetics
-Custom exhaust tips
The car was delivered to the client in Scottsdale, AZ, in the Spring of 2017, where the car lived for the next three years. During its stay in Scottsdale, the owner regularly drove the car to cars & coffee events and covered just over 2,400 miles. The car has benefitted from regular exercise and cosmetically remains in as-restored condition with no rock chips or damage of any kind.
This 356 Convertible D has been restored to a very high level in a very desirable color combination. If you are in the market for a concours level 356 open car that will also perform wonderfully on the road, this is a must consider example.
Please note: the car wears a non-numbers matching engine, and the color combination was changed during restoration.
