Das Fahrzeug im Detail

Today 154283 is finished in Heron Grey over Green leather upholstery and matching green square-weave carpeting. It retains original stamped body panels #83 and #283 on the front and rear bonnets. It also retains a majority of its factory floor pans. The pans received a few repairs in years past, as shown in the photos. All 5 wheels are dated 9/60, date stamped fuel tank, Reutter-Verdeck top #63072. All side glass is original etched Skurit. Overall the cabriolet retains several original components, coupled with a thoughtfully kept older restoration. Other equipment includes leather luggage straps and matching spare tire strap, seat belts with clips through eye bolts, period Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio with correct mesh speaker grilles and Hirschmann antenna, cigar tray, and Porsche crested hub caps. A mint original driver’s manual is also included in the cars file.

The luggage compartment is complete with proper jack and tool roll, in addition to the spare assembly. Underneath the single grille of the boot lid, the 356’s original powerplant is detailed with correct fittings, decals, wiring, and necessary components. The paint and interior remain in good condition throughout and with only light imperfections. Overall the presentation is impressive.

Known Ownership:

Mr. & Mrs. Jaffee: Purchased new with delivery in Stuttgart, followed by a European tour. It was brought home to Philadelphia and said to have been immediately changed to a lighter shade of grey (Heron). The 356 was kept at their farm in New Jersey and eventually ended up at their ranch in Aspen, Colorado. The couple found it impracticable to drive in winter because of the snow depths – eventually selling it 1985 to a local PCA member. Jaffe was a famed investment banker, known for taking Xerox public.

Owner Two (Colorado): Held the Convertible for about a year and sold it to a friend of a friend in 1986

Roger Fridholm (Michigan): “Enjoyed the car immensely” and used the Porsche almost exclusively to chauffeur to and from the country club near his home in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Claimed to have never driven in inclement weather, while always stored in a heated garage – accumulating less than 1,000 miles over his 9-year ownership.

James Schrager (Indiana): Author of “Buying, Driving and Enjoying the Porsche 356”. Owned the car for a short time before selling it to PCNW.

Thomas Griffin (Vancouver, CA): Acquired from above in Summer 1995. Commissioned the cosmetic restoration it displays today.

Michael Rivkin & Jeffri Coleman (Washington State, Pennsylvania): Porsche enthusiasts and Mille participants with their 1952 356 kept in Italy. The cabriolet lived a pampered life on Orcas Island, later making its way to Pennsylvania in 2016 with the family.

Pleasurable drivability and a sharp attire, the Cabriolet has undoubtedly withstood the test of automotive time having been well cared for by attentive and studious caretakers.
