History:
The Porsche 356 was first launched in 1948 and soon became the benchmark for small sports coupes around the world, especially when used for trackdays and roadrally’s. The first open-top Porsche which left a big impact on the crowd was the 356 pré-A Speedster.
When the production for the highley succesfull Speedster stopped, in 1959 Porsche proudly announced their newly redesigned model: the 356B Roadster. The introduction of the new model came with a lot of minor changes and was available as a 1600, 1600 Super, Super 90 and Carrera. The Super 90 was the strongest pushrod-engine Porsche had ever produced back then, due to its bigger inletvalves, reworked cylinderheads and double twin-choke carburettors, delivering a whopping 90 horsepower! Many people at the time, journalists and customers alike, regarded the Super 90 as the best car Porsche had ever produced, and many still do. A total of 2 650 examples of the 356B Roadster Super 90 have been produced, but in 1961 only a mere 89 cars left the Drauz-factory, a true rarity!
