When Porsche first debuted the Cayman in 2006, it was lauded for its good looks, predictable handling characteristics, and all-around fun to drive nature. A frequent winner of automotive magazine group tests, enthusiasts everywhere loved the Cayman. Still, people wanted Porsche to offer a step above the Cayman S. The 911 was flush with variants aimed towards track use, daily driving, and grand touring. Yet, the Cayman was only granted the base, S and for a limited time, the R-all of which were down on power compared to the 911 and less focused than enthusiasts hoped. But nearly 10 years after its introduction, Porsche delivered. The Cayman GT4 was launched in 2015 and featured a variant of the Carrera S 3.8-liter Flat-6, a track-tuned suspension, manual transmission, and bodywork with increased downforce. As soon as the car went on sale, driving enthusiasts everywhere began scooping them up and pressing them into track and canyon duty. With the overwhelming success of the first generation, Porsche knew that they needed to create an even more exciting option for the follow-up. The upgrades were significant when the 718 generation GT4 debuted in July 2019- between the engine, revised bodywork, and suspension, the new car was more well-rounded and genuinely separated itself from the previous generation.
Finished in GT Silver, this 2021 718 Cayman GT4 shows just 15,635 miles and is in fantastic condition throughout. GT Silver is one of the most sought-after colors for the GT4, and with good reason- the way it picks up the light and shadows on all of the cars curves and provides great contrast with the black trim around the vehicle. This car was fitted with a set of satin black wheels in front of yellow brake calipers around carbon ceramic discs. Engine displacement grew to 4.0-liter, and the car now produced 414 horsepower and had a much wider powerband than the outgoing model. The revised bodywork on the 718 GT4 produces up to 330 lbs of downforce at speed, which is 50% more than the outgoing 981 GT4 and means the car is absolutely rock solid at speed.
Inside, the cabin is classic Porsche- simple but has everything you need as a driver right at your fingertips. This GT4 is fitted with the coveted carbon-back bucket seats like those found in the 918 Spyder hypercar, which are upholstered in a combination of black leather and black Alcantara. Sitting in the center stack is an LCD screen that controls the Apple CarPlay and sends the sound out through an optional Bose sound system. Carbon fiber trim is featured throughout the cabin, and on top of the dashboard sits the Sport Chrono lap timer for when you head to the track.
In the middle of the car, the engine has grown from 3.8 liters in the last GT4 to 4.0 liters and remains naturally aspirated. This means 414 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque and the ability to rev to 8,000 RPM while producing plentiful power throughout the rev range. This car is fitted with Porsche’s fantastic 7-speed PDK double-clutch gearbox, which offers seamless shifts on track while remaining comfortable and simple to use around town- truly the best of both worlds. The PDK also cuts down acceleration times dramatically- dropping the 0-60 from 4.3 seconds in the manual car to a truly rapid 3.7 seconds. The front suspension is borrowed from the 911 GT3 and offers the lightning-fast turn-in and agility that the rear engine GT3 is known for.
The 718 GT4 is the epitome of what Porsche is great at building: a car that is as comfortable on the track as it is driving to the office. The car is fast, agile, and toss-able, offering plenty of creature comforts and reliability you would expect from a modern car, meaning that you can use your sports car every day and give up nothing.
