A total of just fifty-four Carrera 3.0 RS Coupes were built by the factory, the purpose was to re-homologate a further-developed RS for the new 1974 model year ‘G-Series’ body. The cars were road legal and fitted with a 2933cc (type 911/77) 230hp engine, which was perfectly suited to either road use or for Group 3 competition and rallies. As with the 2.7 Carrera RS, its 3.0-litre successor was substantially lightened through the use of thin-gauge steel, simplified interior equipment and fibreglass engine and bonnet lids. Brake callipers, derived from the Porsche 917, were fitted front and rear. The steel front wings were widened to accommodate 9-inch-wide Fuchs alloy wheels at the front and 11-inch wheels at the rear. For racing, 9-inch front rims and 14-inch rear rims were used.

Supplied new in 1974 via Dick Lovett Porsche to C. McAlpine. In 1975 the car was re-sold through Dick Lovett to Bill Stephens, who owned it for about a year, before passing to Robbie Gordon and then onto Colin Briggs, of Forfar in Scotland, who covered about 20,000 miles in the car. It was then acquired by Roland Jones in 1982 and sold onto Lord Mexborough in 1983 with approx. 38,000 miles recorded. The car remained in Mexborough’s collection at Arden Hall for 30 years with just 43,000 miles recorded since new.
