The earliest record on file begins in 1986 when it was taken to Kahler’s Werkstatt in Dublin, California to have a K27 Turbocharger replaced, $1,570 was spent. This 930 has been religiously serviced by Kahler’s from 1986 to 2022. Maintenance records reveal that this 930 received a RUF 5-speed transmission (Type 930/5-2), with a new clutch, clutch cable and a larger interiorcooler was installed and the boost was adjusted at the wastegate on May 19, 1987, $15,755.89 was spent. The engine received a complete rebuild, at 141,275 miles, by Kahler’s Werkstatt on June 27, 2011. The engine was completely disassembled to the long block, reconditioned, and reassembled with new pistons and cylinders, chains, bearings, and gaskets, $22,544.86 was spent. European Collectibles has done a recent service and this 930 is turnkey and ready to enjoy.

The 3.3L flat-six engine is fitted with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a single KKK Turbocharger producing 265hp at 5,500 rpm with 291 foot-pounds torque at 4,000 rpm. Power is provided to the rear wheels through a RUF 5-speed transmission with four-wheel disc brakes. Complete with spare tire and 37 years of service history.

This model year introduced the intercooled version of the 930 with the whale tale that defined Porsche’s first supercar. Not only is the 930 a highly collectible car with an iconic look, but it also has the remarkable history of being the only homologated road car to win the 24hrs of Le Mans outright in 1979 by Porsche Kremer Racing. It was at the head of the pack in its day and the performance still impresses today.

There are good arguments to be made that the Porsche 930 (AKA the 911 Turbo) was the first civilized supercar. As reliable as an anvil and the fastest car on the German Autobahns for almost a decade, it proved that high performance didn’t have to be finicky. As long as you were skillful enough to drive it to its potential.
