So what’s this E-Hybrid stuff all about?

Electric power is something Porsche are more than familiar with. In fact, Ferdinand Porsche was already tinkering with the idea back in 1901 with his small scale production of the Lohner-Porsche ‘Mixte’ hybrid vehicles. Fast forward over 100 years and technology has filtered down through the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, the 918 Spyder Supercar and the Le Mans winning 919 Hybrid to the latest in Porsche Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles.

Select one of four driving options via the dial on the steering wheel with all the information relayed to you via the dash and instruments:

• E-POWER: Fully electric, allowing you silent access to low emission zones, with a range of 25 miles or so via the 136 bhp motor.
• HYBRID: Hybrid auto seeks out the most efficient deployment of the hybrid system’s energy, mixing fully electric, but firing up the combustion engine when needed. It uses data from the navigation system to optimise efficiency, prioritising full electric in urban areas to hybrid as it reads the road and optimises the battery charging and deployment. It also learns your routes and how you drive and adapts its behaviour accordingly. E-Hold mode deliberately holds your current battery charge so you know you’ve got access later on while E-Charge actually charges the battery via the combustion engine whilst you drive, such as on the motorway.
• SPORT: The petrol engine is always in use with the battery ready to provided the boost function.
• SPORT PLUS: Again, the engine is always in operation, with sportier settings for the power delivery and transmission and the battery fully charged for frequent boosting, with the full 462 bhp available.
