Great Porsche 996 Targa from 2003 with original production period within the 996.2 phase (smoother headlights, panoramic Targa) and classic 320 hp / 3.6 L naturally aspirated boxer engine.
The vehicle was equipped with a replacement engine from Porsche years ago (exchange engine).
Since this replacement, the car has been running smoothly – with no signs of recurring "IMS/timing chain damage."
The installation of a replacement engine is a common, appropriate maintenance step for longevity in this series, in addition to overhaul.
It was brought back to Germany 8 years ago and has since been fully documented and serviced annually by Porsche or a specialist workshop.
Maintenance/repair status (extensively renewed):
• Full service history including invoices and documentation
• New mufflers (exhaust system renewed)
• New dampers and springs (fresh comfort and handling)
• New intermediate shaft bearings
• New oil filter
• New crankshaft seal (typical seal replaced)
• Suspension newly tuned/installed
• New battery
• New hi-fi system incl. Carplay
• Fully ceramic coated (engine / heat shield / exhaust manifold – if that's what you mean)
All components are in a condition that far exceeds the usual maintenance intervals.
Panorama Targa roof:
100% functional. Opens and closes smoothly, quickly, tightly, and reliably.
The mechanical glass/soft top system is a technical highlight of this series and is considered robust when regularly maintained.
The Porsche 996 Targa was built from 2002 to 2005 and has an electrically sliding panoramic Targa roof.
It combines coupé rigidity with the open-top experience of a convertible, without the classic Targa hardtop removal.
Production was modest: around 5,000 units over this period.
