The vehicle in detail

Representing the final evolution of Porsche’s storied air-cooled performance career, this 911 Cup 3.8 RSR, chassis 398071, was ordered by American racing privateer Richard Raimist of Team A.R.E. The tenth of just 15 examples built for 1997, the car was delivered as it presents today in Weiss with a single racing seat and equipped with Pirelli tires, limited-slip differential, central locking 18-inch Cup wheels, strut bar, fixed spoiler with additional rear wing, 75-liter fuel tank, and power steering.
Upon delivery in December 1996, the car was pressed into service two months later at the 1997 24 Hours of Daytona, finishing 3rd in its GTS-3 class and 11th overall. This was followed up weeks later at the 1997 12 Hours of Sebring, where it finished 2nd in the GTS-3 class and 13th overall. Chassis 398071 completed full racing seasons in 1997 and 1998, and a partial season in 1999, before the expansion of water-cooled Porsche racers forced its early retirement.
Following its time in the United States, the car returned home to Germany in 2003 where it received an extensive restoration by the noted Porsche gurus at Freisinger Motorsport of Karlsruhe, Germany. Following its refurbishment, the car has enjoyed life as part of a significant private Porsche collection, with sparing track use over the last 22 years. In preparation for its sale, the car received a fresh fluid service by Axel von Blittersdorff Sports Car Service of Hamburg. It is now offered with a report by marque expert Jürgen Barth confirming the presence of its matching-numbers gearbox and a Deutscher Motor Sport Bund car passport offering eligibility to a host of vintage racing events.
Owing to its period racing career, and extensive restoration by marque experts, this car represents a rare opportunity to acquire an exceptional factory-built RSR perfect for continued display or a glorious return to the track.
