Model history
The 996 marked the beginning of a new era for the Porsche 911 in 1998: it was the first 911 with a water-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine – a break with the air-cooled tradition that had prevailed until then. The body was also fundamentally modernized, becoming longer, wider, and more aerodynamically optimized. The 996 C4S combined the wide Turbo body with all-wheel drive, a powerful naturally aspirated engine, and extensive equipment.
