The whole story
This 911 was delivered by Glöckler in Frankfurt am Main in 1976 – the first documented owner: an advertising agency in Hamburg. Connoisseurs of the model know that it could not be sold directly in the US because it did not meet the emissions regulations there. In 1984, however, a US Army officer stationed in Ansbach discovered the NATO green Carrera 3.0 for himself. With 83,540 kilometers on the clock, he bought the car for DM 23,000, and the original purchase contract is of course available.
From this moment on, a story unfolds that reads like an archive on wheels: invoices, correspondence, documents – all meticulously preserved. In 1985, the car was exported to Texas in the USA, or more precisely to Fort Hood, one of the largest military bases in the USA. Shortly before that, the odometer was reset from 102,718 km to 63,826 miles. Mr. D. and his wife maintain the car with passion and precision, as evidenced by well over 200 pages of paper in the form of invoices, personal correspondence, and notes. Two engine overhauls are documented – one of them in 2004 at 95,873 miles, at a cost of $11,700. Shortly afterwards, the 911 is painted grand prix white. Although we don't know the 'why', we learn everything and more about the quality of the work and the interaction with the painter on several pages...
In 2006, the car suddenly and unexpectedly changes hands, much to the surprise of readers immersed in the files, but Mr. M. continues the documentation in the same manner. Again: invoices, notes, carpet samples, stickers. In 2012, German paperwork reappears for the first time: a TÜV report with no defects, a classic car appraisal, the re-conversion to the kilometer speedometer.
Since 2013, the Carrera 3.0 has been back on the road in Ländle – in grand prix white, with the original interior. Its condition: well maintained, documented, ready to go. The price reflects its current condition – with the option of one day returning this special vehicle to its only known NATO green variant.
Some cars are simple, others charming. And then there are those with character. Our Carrera 3.0 Targa belongs to the third category – and is looking for someone to continue its story.
With best regards
