The 1975 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 was a pivotal model in Porsche’s history, bridging the gap between the legendary 2.7 Carrera RS and the upcoming 911 SC. Introduced in 1975 and produced until 1977, it featured a 3.0 litre flat-six engine derived from the 930 Turbo, but without a turbocharger. This engine produced 200 horsepower, offering impressive performance while being more reliable than its 2.7-litre predecessor.
Visually, the Carrera 3.0 retained the classic wide rear fenders with the early option of a ducktail spoiler, enhancing both aerodynamics and stability. Porsche only produced 3,687 units, making it a rare and highly sought-after model among collectors. Weighing just 1,095 kg, it maintained the lightweight philosophy of earlier 911s, contributing to its agile handling.

Produced in little more than a thousand units from 1975 to 1977, the Carrera 3.0s in right hand drive is rare to start with but in this condition, they are almost unheard of. During normal driving the car feels much like most other naturally aspirated G-series 911s, smooth and balanced however, when you push on you feel the additional torque of the 3.0 versus the earlier 2.7 followed by a deeper exhaust note too.
It is not unusual for Porsche enthusiasts to suffer from ‘scope creep’ but this car has had nearly £200,000 spent on it, more than it would ever be worth, in the near future at least. The result is a spectacularly good condition car that positively sparkles. The simplicity of the styling works to flatter and enhance the attractive 1980s colour combination to great effect.
They are solid cars to drive and one car certainly imagine driving another 200,000 miles happily. All in all, a rare and desirable example of a tasteful car which is perhaps unfairly underrated.
