An exceptionally original early production Carrera 2.7 RS Touring, offered from long-term ownership and representing one of the finest surviving examples of this iconic model.
Supplied new to Edmund Bauthier, a Belgian industrialist with close ties to Porsche’s racing department through Huschke von Hanstein, this RS was specified to Bauthier’s exacting personal requirements. Originally ordered as a Lightweight (M471), the specification was altered at the final stage of production to the more usable M472 Touring package, reflecting Bauthier’s intention to drive the car extensively across Europe. The resulting specification included Recaro sports seats, a full black leather interior, including leather dashboard, manual windows, and no sunroof, an ideal blend of comfort, focus, and restraint.
Notably, the engine was personally selected from the production line by Von Hanstein himself.. While the history file records a documented engine replacement carried out by SonAuto Porsche in 1978, the car’s provenance remains exceptionally well preserved and transparently documented.
Delivered new via SonAuto Porsche in Paris, the late change to M472 Touring specification delayed delivery until late November 1972, shortly after the model’s debut at the Paris Motor Show, where the car had originally been intended for display and handover. Despite also owning a Ferrari Daytona and Maserati Merak, Bauthier favoured the Carrera RS for long distance touring and maintained it with great care, keeping it garaged throughout his ownership.
This example is among the first 150 Carrera RS models produced, an often overlooked but significant distinction. These early cars benefited from additional gearbox tunnel reinforcement, thinner gauge steel construction, resulting in reduced weight, and a superior quality fibreglass ducktail. Bauthier retained the car until 1985, when it passed to its second owner (K Moffett), who collected it from Lausanne and drove it back to the UK. It remained in his custodianship until 2021 before being acquired by the current owner and taking pride of place within a very significant Porsche collection.
The second owner carried out a sympathetic restoration focused on preservation rather than renewal, ensuring the car’s integrity and originality were maintained. As a result, the RS retains its original floors, panels, wings, doors, and ducktail, and today presents as a remarkably authentic example. It is accompanied by its original service books, toolkit, spare wheel compressor, and an extensive history file documenting its life from new to the present day.
With just 1,308 Carrera 2.7 RS Touring models produced in total, truly exceptional examples are exceedingly rare. This early production, low ownership car combines unique provenance, outstanding originality and careful stewardship throughout its life, making it a genuinely useable yet collectible Carrera 2.7 RS Touring and a compelling opportunity for a discerning buyer.
Upon arriving into our possession in December 2025, the car was immediately entrusted to renowned 2.7 RS and historic 911 specialists Maxted-Page, who carried out a comprehensive recommissioning service, addressing all outstanding items and fitting four new period correct tyres, ensuring the car is presented in optimal mechanical condition for the next custodian to enjoy.
