The initial 911 series became known as the O series, produced until July 1967 and the MY1968 911s as the A series, followed by the MY1969 B series. These earliest editions of the 911 had Typ 901/01 an air-cooled, rear-mounted, all-aluminum-alloy, 2.0 L (1,991 cc) 130 PS (96 kW) SOHC flat-six boxer engine, which has almost no parts interchangeability to the 356’s four-cylinder pushrod 1.6L, or the 2.0L DOHC unit. It was mated to a five-speed manual “Type 901” transmission. The car had 2+2 seating, though the rear was very small, like the 356. The styling was by Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, son of Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche. Erwin Komenda, the leader of the Porsche car body construction department, was responsible for the engineering aspects of the new chassis/body, incorporating the new engine, transmission, steering, and suspension into the monocoque.
In mid-1966, the 901/01 engine (9.0:1 compression ratio, Solex 40PI) was changed to Typ 901/05 with two Weber 40IDA3C carburetors (3 choke/barrel, with two fuel needle valves and two floats each).

Our car on offer is a fully numbers matching early 67 example in the rare exterior color of Golf Blue (6603) with black pepita inserted seats. Sold new in Germany in October of 1966. The car came to the US in 1969 and spent a few years in New York before it came to its long-term owner in California in 1973. The 911 remained in his ownership up until very recently.
This is a true survivor example and while it definitely needs some restoration work, it is immediately useable and enjoyable as is. The car largely maintained its original paint, but the front hood, the roof and the passenger door were repainted many years ago.
There is some body rust and a good amount of rock chips, dents and scratches from 59 years of road use that will need attention.
The interior is all original, un-restored and shows its age. The seats need to be redone, but door panels, dash and carpets are useable. The headliner is stained and has a few rips. The dash is nice and was customized with a wooden fascia decades ago, which of course is not original to the 67 model. Good steering wheel and controls. The car still retains its original metric instrumentation. The speedo shows 87,601km, which is believed to be 187,601 translating to about 117,000 miles.
The car runs fine, suspension and brakes are ok and it is useable as is. There was a top end rebuild done to the car a few years back.
This classic swb 911 presents an opportunity to the next owner to go various ways. Obviously, the car will need some work, but it is a drivable project which can be a lot of fun.
Light restoration, full restoration, an outlaw project, historic racer…endless opportunities.
The car comes with 5 Fuchs wheels which were added later in life, but the original (date stamped) steel wheels with hubcaps are still with the car and included in the sale. We have the Kardex and California registration receipts back to 1973. Spare and jack but no toolkit.
