Period-Inspired Rally Specification, Fully Rebuilt to ST-Style Specification by Italian Competition Specialists.

Early short-wheelbase 911s occupy a special place in Porsche history. They represent the lightest, most direct expression of the model before comfort, regulation, and wheelbase changes reshaped its character. In period, these cars became the foundation for Porsche’s rally success, valued for their compact dimensions, mechanical simplicity, and adaptability to competition use. This example has been rebuilt in the spirit of those late-1960s works and privateer rally cars. Rather than pursuing concours originality, the focus here is authenticity of intent, mechanical correctness, and real-world usability. It is an early 911 configured to be driven and enjoyed as Porsche’s competition customers once did.

The vehicle in detail

This short-wheelbase 911 underwent a comprehensive restoration and re-engineering between 2021 and 2023, carried out in Italy under the coordination of Perosino S.r.l., a specialist in historic and competition Porsches. The car was stripped to bare metal, treated for corrosion protection, structurally reinforced at key suspension pickup points, and refinished in black prior to final assembly.

The drivetrain was rebuilt around a 2.4-liter twin-plug flat-six producing approximately 240 horsepower. The engine was assembled with period-appropriate components and tuned for reliability, balance, and response rather than peak output. Power is delivered through a rebuilt 901 gearbox fitted with a limited-slip differential, reinforcing the car’s rally-focused character.

Suspension and braking systems were upgraded with motorsport-grade components, including fully adjustable coilovers, reinforced suspension arms, and a high-performance braking system designed to withstand sustained spirited use. The electrical system was fully re-engineered with a rally-style wiring loom, auxiliary lighting, and competition safety features.

Inside, the cabin reflects a purposeful, period-correct approach. Lightweight bucket seats with harnesses, a suede-trim steering wheel, simplified trim, and rally instrumentation create an environment that feels authentic to late-1960s competition Porsches without excess. The cockpit prioritizes focus, visibility, and connection over comfort.

As presented, this 911 is not a replica of a single historic entry. Instead, it is a cohesive and thoughtfully executed interpretation of what a privateer Porsche rally car could have been. It offers the look, sound, and mechanical honesty of an early competition 911, supported by a documented, recent restoration carried out with clear intent.
