1968 Porsche 911 S
Since 1964, the Porsche 911 has embodied the archetypal dream machine for generations of motoring aficionados. That was as true in 1968 as it is today, when this particular example first emerged from the assembly halls of Zuffenhausen. Its original colour, Hellelfenbein (Light Ivory), remains unchanged, and thanks to an extensive restoration it is remarkably difficult to detect the passage of time in this elegant 911.
Connoisseurs will recognise that the “S” designation marks the range-topping variant, delivering 160 horsepower from a 2.0-litre air-cooled flat-six engine. The 1968 model year also introduced several technical refinements, including a dual-circuit braking system and ventilated disc brakes. In addition, the year featured a number of subtle visual characteristics unique to the 1968 production series.
