There are cars you drive—and cars you experience. This 1970 Porsche 911 2.2 S Targa undoubtedly belongs to the latter category.
Powered by the legendary 2.2-liter six-cylinder boxer engine with mechanical Bosch fuel injection (MFI), this 911 S represents an era in which precision was still mechanically tangible: spontaneous response, razor-sharp throttle response, and an unadulterated engine sound that becomes more intense as the revs increase – raw, honest, addictive.
The vehicle has been extensively restored with the clear aim of not only preserving the original engineering concept, but also bringing it to life. In 2022, with only 7,000 km on the clock, the engine was completely overhauled by our Porsche Center – at a documented cost of over €100,000. Among other things, the following were replaced:
- Crankshaft replaced
- Crankcase revised
- Pistons and cylinders renewed
- Replaced camshafts, including housing
- Cylinder heads reworked, including new valves
- Timing chain including wheels, tensioner, and housing replaced
- Oil pump replaced
- Injection pump overhauled, including new injection valves and lines
- All bearing-related components replaced and overhauled
The result is an engine that revs freely, runs thermally stable, and delivers exactly what the 911 S is famous for: speed, character, and immediate response.
The drivetrain is complemented by a replacement transmission of the same original type, cleanly tuned and precisely shiftable – mechanical feedback, maximum control. Just as an early 911 should be.
In addition, the entire rear axle and brake system have been overhauled.
The body is in excellent condition and has been additionally ceramic-coated, which not only protects the paintwork but also permanently enhances its depth and brilliance. The Targa combines the best of both worlds: the lines of the classic 911 with an open-top driving experience and increased everyday practicality.
In 2024, the front wishbones and seat belts were also replaced – a clear commitment to driving precision and safety without compromising the original character.
This rare Porsche 911 2.2 S Targa is not a museum piece, but a drivable classic for enthusiasts who know what mechanical fuel injection, low weight, and perfect balance mean.
Get in, turn the ignition key to the left, the six-cylinder engine roars to life, and suddenly 1970 is back.
An extraordinary classic – for people who feel Porsche.
