Porsche 911 ST

Coupé, 1970

Highlights

  • Genuine and Factory Built ST
  • Germany delivered, Rally specification
  • Numbers Matching Engine and Transmission

Before the RS program took flight in 1972, Porsche was passionately working on delivering a motorsports inspired trim that would pave the way for a totally new understanding of 911 ownership—drive to the track (win) and drive home. Enter, the 911 ST…

Far from a conventional production model, and engineered to bridge the gap between road car and full competition machine, it was the birth child of the brand’s racing department. With extensive weight reduction, competition-focused mechanical upgrades, and bespoke configurations designed to meet homologation requirements and customer intent, the ST was a tailored hammer—crafted by the arguably the greatest toolmakers.

s a result, true factory-built 911 STs are among the rarest early 911 variants in existence, with production believed to total fewer than 35 examples between 1970 and 1972. No two cars were built exactly alike, and factory records were often incomplete due to the individualized nature of ST construction. Variations in engine displacement, body configuration, and equipment were common, making documented examples exceptionally important.

Our 1970 Porsche 911 ST has been fully restored and, crucially, reunited with its original 2.2-liter ST engine and matching transmission, both now verified as matching numbers. Notably, when previously offered for sale, the car was not accompanied by its original drivetrain. Finished in Silver Metallic, this car is believed to be one of only two 911 STs produced in this color. Factory documentation and period correspondence denote that the car left the factory as a Rally spec—placing it among the rarest configurations. Supported by extensive archival material, factory communications, and photographic evidence, this 911 ST represents a highly significant and correctly documented example of one of the most elusive early competition-derived Porsches ever built. competition-derived Porsches ever built.
