In 1972, Porsche introduced the famous oil flap: an exterior oil filler cap, allowing the driver to add oil without opening the engine lid. The concept proved confusing in practice, as the oil flap was often mistaken for the fuel filler cap. Porsche therefore discontinued this system after just one model year. This is precisely why the surviving oil flap examples are now particularly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors.
