Porsche 944 Turbo Coupé

Porsche 944 Turbo Coupé

Coupé, 1986

Highlights

  • Sport seats!
  • Beautiful color combination!
  • Delivered new in Germany!

We present a magnificent example of a Porsche 951 (internal designation of the 944 turbo) with 220 horsepower, manufactured in January 1986 and registered in Spain in November 1986 with a provincial registration from Madrid (M-TZ).

It has been registered as a historic vehicle under the previous regulations, so it also has an H license plate and is exempt from environmental restrictions for driving in Madrid. Regarding its configuration, several elements stand out that speak to a unit with a unique appeal: Fit the best possible options in Porsches of this era: the Sport seats , which with their pronounced petals are a delight for fast driving, do not lose the comfort of good armchairs, but hold laterally almost like a bucket seat. They are upholstered in the elegant upholstery commonly known as “Hugo Boss” (“pin stripe velours” according to the catalog of the time), with parallel white lines on a black background. The pilot’s seat is heated!

REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE HISTORY

Its recent history is very well known and perfectly documented in recent years; in fact, this unit has been the subject of a thread on the Soloporsche forum about the value that having had several careful and attentive owners adds to certain units:

From November 1996 to June 2021, it was in the hands of its first owner, who kept it parked in a garage for the last ten years (according to the DGT records). At the end of that first ownership period, it had 182,600 kilometers on the odometer.

This first owner acquired it in 2021 from an enthusiast who dedicated himself to bringing it up to date with an extensive service, including tank cleaning, new tires, hose replacements, etc. We don’t have invoices and can’t verify how much was spent, but he did inform us that he had the work done at Baltasar, the oldest Porsche specialist workshop in Madrid and until recently the leading name in the industry.

In 2021, it was acquired through a company by one of Taredblau’s partners, an enthusiast and collector, who invested around 2,000 euros in several transactions that are documented in the invoice history.

In 2022 he sold it to a friend of the house and client, also a well-known member of Soloporsche, who spent around 8,000 euros on mechanical repairs and cataloging it as a historical vehicle.

In 2024, it returned to the hands of Taredblau’s partner, who had it serviced at our facilities. This revealed a leak in the crankcase, which was repaired. We’ve just performed a major service, including a spark plug replacement. In total, the cost was around €4,000.

All work carried out since 2021 is documented with invoices, which can be downloaded at the end of this announcement. These services were performed at Taredblau, Altozano, and perhaps at the least known of the good specialists, “El Maño,” where our partner took his Porsches before founding this company. Don’t be fooled by the Citroën logo on the invoices; we’re talking about a completely trustworthy workshop where many Madrid enthusiasts take their cars because of the expertise of both the mechanics and the owner, who is also a great fan of classic Porsches.

But most importantly: there’s an excessive emphasis on cars having had only one owner, when often, as is the case here, that first owner may have largely abandoned the car… leaving the next owner to invest a significant amount of money. In this case, for example, the three recent owners (who are counted as four by the DGT, the Spanish Traffic Authority) have invested a normal amount in a vehicle that has been sitting idle or seen little use for several years. If we add up the invoices, this car has had €14,000 in documented expenses since 2021, or €17,000 if we consider what the previous owner declared at the time.

And since 2021, it has been used in events and on routes that demand perfect performance: starting on the first try, taking off, and keeping up with the pace of any new car on both mountain roads and highways. Which is the best way to keep a car in top condition.

So this car presents the classic dilemma: do I buy a car with only one owner believing that this is a guarantee of something, or do I buy it after it has been in good hands that have put no less than 17,000 euros into it and the car also has a warranty?

Let’s not be misled by this either… there are no warranty exclusions for classic cars, unless there is a known defect in both parties that is specifically excluded. Which isn’t the case here. We’d be foolish to sell something in poor condition, knowing that our commitment is to handle any necessary repairs in our workshop.

In short, a unit with a proven track record of previous performances, in perfect condition, and a classic that can be used without hesitation or compromise, both for everyday use and for mountain outings, with extraordinary road capability and wonderful poise, the result of its transaxle design.

The only question left is the typical one… and why is he selling it? We patients know very well: because there’s always someone else to sign up for, knowing that as soon as the car is gone we’ll miss it.
