The Porsche 964, first introduced in 1989, was a drastic further development of the Carrera 3.2. It was initially offered as the all-wheel drive "Carrera 4", followed by the rear-wheel drive version "Carrera 2" in 1990. The 964 was the last model with the classic removable Targa roof.

Equipped with a 3.6-liter boxer engine and a revised chassis with coil springs, the 964 featured power steering and ABS as standard for the first time.
