The 964, built at a time when the engineers in Zuffenhausen still worked with oil-stained hands and very clear visions, was never a car designed for quick applause. Just four model years—a brief guest appearance on the stage of 911 history.
But as is so often the case, it is precisely those with a brief presence that leave a lasting impression.
Over the past ten years, the 964 has evolved from a once slightly underrated link in the chain to a coveted classic. And as is often the case: what was overlooked in the past is now sought after like the proverbial needle in a haystack—except that the haystack has since become significantly more expensive.
The later models from 1992 onward, which include this Coupé, benefit in particular from a whole series of technical and quality improvements. Porsche had learned, listened, and improved—and thus created a vehicle that possesses not only the character but also the sturdiness of a true endurance runner. Here, “robust” is no empty promise, but a quality you can almost hear while driving—somewhere between the satisfying click of the door closing and the unmistakable baritone of the air-cooled boxer engine.
This vehicle is a prime example of how rare the once-ordinary has become. Built for the German market, in a color combination that needs no explanation because it simply works. No trendy gimmicks, no loud “look at me”—rather, a quiet self-assurance that stands out precisely because of it.
First registered in Bavaria; since 2000, it has been in the final ownership of a gentleman born in 1940, meaning no aftermarket modifications such as a Cup exhaust, track suspension, or other gimmicks. Left exactly as it came from the factory and never pushed to the limit for lap times or driver training. Plus, a complete ownership and maintenance history that not only provides numbers but builds trust through all original documents, a fully maintained service record, all keys, etc.
And then there’s its condition: confirmed by a 2020 inspection report at 116,000 kilometers, rated a 2. A number that seems unassuming, but in reality speaks volumes—of care, respect, and a true understanding of a car of this caliber.
One could say: lucky break. Or, to put it more objectively: a vehicle that meets all the criteria an enthusiast could wish for—and which are rarely found all at once. A late-model 964 Carrera 2 Coupé, technically mature, historically traceable, and compelling both visually and emotionally.
And while many cars become less distinctive over the years, this one only becomes clearer in its message: I’m not perfect—but damn close.
That is exactly what makes it so desirable.
