This particular 964 RS was actually used in the Carrera Cup in 1993, and therefore carries the DNA of pure competition. The 964 Cup was purchased new by Frenchman Bertrand Balas, who drove this car in the French Porsche Carrera Cup in 1993.
In 2013, the Cup was purchased by Manfred Hering, well known in the world of classic and special Porsches. Hering is the owner of Early911S, one of the world’s leading Porsche restorers. In 2014, Hering registered the Porsche for use on public roads. Although Hering drove it once on the Bilsterberg, the car has never been used on public roads.
In early 2025, the car was purchased by Michel Arfman, owner of Porsche Centrum Twente. He bought the car for private circuit use. The certified Porsche classic mechanics at Porsche Centrum Twente prepared the Cup technically, after which Arfman drove it for a number of laps at the Assen circuit, among other places. In total, the 964 Cup has had three owners.
Whereas the standard 964 Carrera RS was already a sharp, lightweight, track-focused model, the M001 specification takes this to the next level. Think of a completely stripped-out interior, roll cage, racing seats with six-point harnesses, fire extinguishing system, and the absence of comfort options such as air conditioning or sound insulation. All in service of one goal: maximum performance on the track.
Under the hood lies the tried-and-tested 3.6-liter air-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine with approx. 275 hp, coupled to a short 5-speed gearbox. The chassis is stiffer and lower than on the street RS, with Cup shock absorbers and a setup that is entirely focused on grip and feedback. Weight has been reduced to the absolute minimum.
From the outside, the M001 is instantly recognizable by its minimalist, functional appearance: no unnecessary luxury, but Cup-spec wheels, a sleeker stance, and livery that references its racing heritage. Every scratch or patina spot tells a story of high-speed laps and wheel-to-wheel battles.
