The Porsche Boxster (type 986) played a crucial role for Porsche at the time. With the 968 and 928 leaving the catalogue after many years of service, the 911 (993) was the only model generating volume. The introduction of the 986 Boxster was a strategic move: it aimed to win back enthusiasts, broaden the customer base and revive a brand facing challenges. It is easy to forget, but in the mid-90s Porsche was not yet the company it is today.
In 1996, before the launch of the new 911 (996), Porsche introduced its new “baby” model. While everyone expected an air-cooled flat-six, the Boxster became the first Porsche road car to adopt water cooling — a crime for Porsche purists at the time! And yet… how well it works!
The result was an efficient and affordable vehicle. Between 1996 and 2004, around 100,000 units were sold — figures never before achieved by Porsche. It was a huge success.
Today, it is fully recognised as a true Porsche and, believe me, in some moments even more fun to drive than a 911! After all, in the Boxster the engine sits exactly where it should.
This is an excellent youngtimer for weekend getaways thanks to two spacious luggage compartments, or simply for enjoying a Sunday morning drive to pick up fresh bread.
Our example is beautiful, healthy, and very well equipped. The interior is in remarkably good condition for its age, with no creaking or damaged plastics.
Under the blue soft top sits the most desirable engine offered in the Boxster at the time: the 3.2-liter flat-six producing 252 hp, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The blue leather seats are semi-electrically adjustable and heated, the gear knob and handbrake lever are trimmed in leather, the car features automatic climate control, the original Porsche Becker radio with CD and navigation, onboard computer, and Litronic headlights.
