Model Background
The Porsche Boxster (986) played a crucial role in Porsche’s history. At a time when the brand’s lineup had been reduced to the 911 (993), the introduction of the Boxster helped expand the customer base and stabilize the company.
Launched in 1996, ahead of the 996-generation 911, the Boxster introduced water cooling—controversial at the time, but ultimately a major success. Between 1996 and 2004, around 100,000 units were sold.
Today, the 986 is fully recognized as a true Porsche and, in many situations, even more enjoyable to drive than a 911 thanks to its mid-engine layout.
