In 2004, Porsche celebrated the 50th anniversary of the legendary 550 Spyder with a unique tribute: the Porsche Boxster S “50 Years 550 Spyder” Edition. Based on the first-generation Boxster (986), this special edition not only honored the iconic racing car from 1953 but also marked the end of an era. With just 1,953 units built worldwide – a reference to the 550’s debut year – only a small number were delivered to the Dutch market, making this one of the most exclusive Boxster models ever produced.
Finished in GT Silver Metallic, the car features a luxurious grey natural leather interior with subtle, bespoke details. A numbered badge on the center console, exclusive trim finishes, and a premium BOSE sound system emphasize the car’s special status. On the outside, standout features include two-tone 18-inch Carrera wheels, 5 mm wheel spacers, a sport exhaust system, and the lowered M030 sports suspension.
Power comes from a refined version of the 3.2-liter flat-six engine from the Boxster S, producing 266 hp and 310 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission with a short-shifter. The car accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 266 km/h. Combined with the tighter chassis, direct steering, and low seating position, the driving experience is both sporty and sophisticated — a true homage to the lightweight agility of the original 550 Spyder.
While it may not be widely known today, the Boxster S “50 Years 550 Spyder” Edition has all the right ingredients to secure its place in Porsche history — if it hasn’t already.
