Porsche also decided to change things up considerably for the interior, with the designers taking inspiration from the Carrera GT supercar. Classic 911 elements such as the five round instruments were still present, but the newly designed centre console equipped with the also new PCM infotainment system provided a completely different look.
The body of the new 991 was as much as 45 kg lighter than before, thanks to the use of aluminium and steel. A handsome achievement considering the increased size compared to the 997!
All model variants got access to more power. Instead of 325 BHP, the Carrera now had 350 BHP, while the S version reached a total of 400 BHP and the GTS even reached 430 BHP.
Until the major facelift, the 991 would be the last 911 to feature an atmospheric six-cylinder boxer engine. With the update announced in 2015, the 991 received a new 3.0-litre boxer engine which was always equipped with two turbochargers. Using this turbo technology, the power outputs of the model variants already described above rose to 370, 420 and 450 BHP respectively. Partly because of this, the Carrera was able to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than four seconds for the first time in 911’s history. An additional advantage of the engine was lower fuel consumption and more friendly emissions. Another novelty for the 911 was the entirely new roof construction of the 911 Targa. With its characteristic roll bar on the B-pillars and a large glass rear window, the new Targa harks back to its predecessors from the past. Through numerous model variants, the 991 would eventually become an even greater success than the 997 series. In total, Porsche produced almost 218,000 units of the 991.
Some cars, in this case Porsches of course, are sometimes said to have perfect colour combinations. Without losing our objectivity, this could well be true of the stunning Porsche 911 991 Carrera S Cabriolet shown here. Newly delivered in Germany in March 2012, this 911 was ordered in “Macadamia Metallic” finished with a dark brown convertible roof and a “Espresso” interior finished in full leather.
In short, the combination of these different shades of brown is so incredibly beautiful that this 991 easily stands out from others.
The RS Spyder alloy wheels complete the look even further and are simply pleasing to the eye. Apart from these wheels and the fully leather-clad interior, this 911 has even more attractive options. One very noteworthy extra is the PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management) suspension system, which makes handling even better than standard. The BOSE audio system, combined with the extensive navigation system, is also a valuable addition to the otherwise fine-looking interior.
Things like electrically folding and auto-dimming door mirrors, front and rear parking sensors and heated front seats are also present. As this 991 is still from the first generation, it still has the simply fantastic-sounding and atmospheric 3.8-litre six-cylinder boxer engine with 400 BHP. Although the obvious thing to do with a Cabriolet is to tour quietly for the most part, pressing the “Sport Plus” button changes the character of this 911 in an instant. The engine management, gearbox and suspension and exhaust system are then put into the most vigilant mode, truly transforming the entire driving experience. At lightning speed, the 7-speed PDK transmission shifts through the gears and all 400 BHP ensure 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 4.5 seconds. The engine and exhaust let out an insanely beautiful sound and partly because of this, it is no trouble at all to reach highly illegal speeds in no time. The
suspension and electronic steering ensure that this 911 literally sticks to the road where the limits are very far away. Insane in every way!
Looking at the condition of this 911, it can only be concluded that it is absolute spotless. After spending just two years in Germany, the car was given a Dutch registration in early 2014. For more than five years, the first Dutch owner would enjoy the 911, until it became the property of the second Dutch owner for a period of more than four years. The current owner is a very good customer of our company and, in doing so, perhaps even more critical of cars than many others. The immaculate optical condition is only further endorsed by the technical condition of this 911. The entire service history is present and the service booklet from start to finish fully completed and stamped. The last service dates from this year and was carried out just hundreds of kilometres ago.
We are not afraid that it will not be long before a new owner will be enjoying an absolute dream 911 with a big smile on his or her face….
