Introduced in 2017, the 911 GT2 RS is the most powerful production 911 ever built. For Porsche, it was about pushing the limits of the 911 by venturing into the supercar segment. The goal was largely achieved, as the GT2 RS set the Nürburgring lap record at the time with a time of 6 minutes 47.3 seconds, over 10 seconds faster than the 918 Spyder.

Mechanically, Porsche started from the 3.8-litre engine of the 911 Turbo S, increasing output from 580 to 700 hp. As with previous GT2 generations, it is strictly rear-wheel drive. The car is significantly lighter thanks in particular to the use of magnesium for the roof, “Gorilla Glass” for the windows (material used for phone screens, saving 3.5 kg compared to traditional glass), a titanium exhaust, etc.

Top speed of the GT2 RS is limited to 340 km/h and the aero components generate up to 416 kg of downforce at the rear. The GT2 RS also features rear-axle steering.

As an option, the Weissach Package reduced weight by another 30 kg compared to the standard GT2 RS. This pack can be visually identified by a decorative carbon band on the bonnet and the roof in visible carbon.

Construction makes extensive use of lightweight materials. With magnesium wheels, the new 911 GT2 RS equipped with the Weissach Package sheds 11.5 kg in weight and gains in visual appeal. The bolted titanium roll cage is about 12 kg lighter than a steel roll cage and was available as an option with the Clubsport Package. The ultra-light paddles and carbon-fiber steering wheel rim are further highlights.
