Porsche France presents the 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenary Edition, a special edition celebrating the legendary 911. This exclusive version pays tribute to the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and celebrates Porsche’s history on the iconic circuit. Reserved exclusively for the French market and limited to 72 units, the 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenary Edition draws inspiration from two icons: the Porsche 356 SL of 1951 and the 911 GT1.
“This is a model 100% dedicated to the French market. The 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenary Edition is the result of shared expertise and passion between the teams of Porsche France and Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur,” explains Marc Meurer, President of Porsche France.
A special design for a unique anniversary
Grant Larson (designer of the first Boxster), in his role as Director of Special Projects at Porsche Style, personally led the project in collaboration with the product teams of Porsche France and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest. Presented in 2020 during a special celebration marking the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the car pays homage through its design details.
A total of 25 unique elements were developed and specially approved. On the exterior, hand-painted decorative stripes on the rear wing feature a white, blue and red gradient inspired by the Le Mans circuit, with the number 72 integrated in 3D. Inside, several specific elements pay tribute to the iconic endurance race, such as the embossed circuit outline on the central armrest, the 24 Hours of Le Mans logo on the headrests and illuminated door sills with the model designation.
The history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is deeply embedded in Porsche’s DNA. A prestigious marque celebrating its 75th anniversary, this exclusive limited series dedicated to France is a superb homage to the greatest endurance race in the world. Marc Meurer, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, highlights Porsche’s continued commitment to endurance racing and to inspiring automotive enthusiasts.
A project rooted in Porsche’s Le Mans history
Porsche’s first participation at Le Mans dates back to 1951, when it won the 2-litre category with the Porsche 356 SL. One of the inspirations for the 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenary Edition is precisely this historic car. The contrast between the Le Mans Silver exterior color and the Graphite Blue interior, the exterior number 46 (the number carried by the 356 SL in 1951), and various decorative details are inspired by the original car. Aurum wheels, side stripes and red seat belts recall the 911 GT1, winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998 with French drivers at the wheel.
To ensure absolute authenticity, Porsche France worked closely with the Porsche Museum. The original chassis of the 356 SL was rediscovered by the museum’s teams and used to develop the 911 Le Mans Centenary Edition. The exterior color, Le Mans Silver, was newly recreated by the Porsche color studio with the help of the current owner of the original 356 SL and a renowned Californian specialist. After the 1998 Le Mans victory, the two cars were reunited on the circuit for an exceptional photo shoot.
A unique 911 Carrera GTS
The 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenary Edition features around 30 standard options that enhance its exclusive character. These include black satin-finish SportDesign side skirts, leather door sill guards in Graphite Blue, tinted PDLS Plus headlights, and a GT Sport steering wheel in Graphite Blue leather with chalk decorative stitching and a “12h” marking in the same color. Additional unique details include carbon bucket seats and specific interior trims.
Based on the 911 Carrera GTS, this special edition offers a 480 hp engine, exclusive chassis, brakes and suspension specific to GTS models. It is available with either a 7-speed manual gearbox or an 8-speed PDK. In addition to the exclusive equipment, each customer receives a specific car cover, an interior protective cover and a personalized book documenting the production of their car at the Exclusive Manufaktur in Zuffenhausen.
