Ask most enthusiasts what the ultimate one-car solution is and more often than not, the answer will be the 911 Turbo. The perfect combination of performance, practicality, comfort, and reliability, the 911 Turbo checks pretty much every box you could hope for. Since the introduction of the 993 Turbo in 1996, these all-wheel-drive sports cars have progressively become more technologically sophisticated and have performance to rival supercars many times their price. The 992 generation is no exception to that rule and is by a wide margin, the fastest and most capable 911 Turbo to ever find its way out of Stuttgart.
This 2021 992 Turbo was delivered new through Manhattan Motorcars on December 21, 2020, and has been under the care of a single owner from new. Finished in Midnight Blue Metallic, although this may look like most other 992 Turbos on the outside, in excess of $150,000 have been spent on modifications, bringing the performance and looks of this car far past the 992 Turbo S and into an entirely different league altogether.
Now, the 992 Turbo was not a bad looking car when it arrived from the factory, but, while under the care of Torrent Motorworks of West Nyack, New York, this Turbo was fitted with an OEM 992 Aero Kit which was painted to match the Midnight Blue Metallic exterior, and a set of OEM Porsche Turbo Exclusive wheels now sit in front of Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes, which were also installed by the shop. The car sits lower thanks to a set of Techart springs, and in the rear, an Akrapovic exhaust pokes out of the blacked-out rear diffuser.
Moving inside the car, the luxurious Truffle Brown leather that was ordered from the factory, encases the seats, steering wheel, dash topper and steering column, now extends onto the center arm rest and rear passenger tunnel which both used to be black. The original seat belts were swapped for a set of yellow belts both front and rear, which now match the tachometer and SportChono dial which have also been professionally finished in yellow. Behind the steering wheel, a set of wonderful feeling magnetic shift paddles have been installed from a GT3, and the full PDLS Dynamic Light System has been purchased from Porsche, and installed for superior lighting.
Where things get even more interesting is under the rear decklid. For the majority of people who drive a 992 Turbo, it is one of the fastest cars they have ever been in. The 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged flat 6 produces 573 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque according to Porsche, and will easily achieve 0-60 in sub-3 seconds. But for the owner of this car, that just wasn’t enough. Pure Performance turbochargers were installed, which increase power by about 230 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque according to the manufacturer. In independent testing with a 992 Turbo S, these new turbos shave nearly 1 second off the quarter mile, and with a 10 mph increase in trap speed which means the gap will only get wider as the road gets longer. These turbos are paired with an IPD plenum and Soul Performance headers which, when paired with the Akrapovic exhaust give the car a great sound and probably boost these power figures even a bit further.
It’s hard to consider a sports car like a 911 Turbo to be a sleeper, but it is safe to say that if you pull up alongside nearly any other car on the road while behind the wheel of this car, the other driver doesn’t stand a chance. But this isn’t some rough and ready race car that forces lots of sacrifices to achieve maximum performance, it is still one of the most comfortable, luxurious sports cars Porsche has ever produced and will be just as happy driving to the office every day, as it is when the turbos get a chance to fully spool up.
