For many enthusiasts, the 993 Cabriolet is the point where everything comes together. You still have the classic 911 design, the air-cooled feel, and the compact feel, but with the maturity of the latest, further developed generation. This is literally the last 911 generation where air cooling was still the starting point.
In convertible form, that character comes even closer. Roof down, boxer engine in the rear, and above all: a car that doesn’t try to be modern, but instead demonstrates why “old” sometimes just feels better. The 993 Cabriolet was available early in the generation (from 1994), so it’s not a “late addition” but a true part of the story. Technically, it’s also simply a strong foundation. The Carrera models were equipped with a 3.6-liter boxer engine that produces 272 hp. What makes a 993 Cabriolet especially special is that you can drive it without it becoming a show. It’s classic enough to feel special, but not so fragile that you’re afraid to use it. This is a 911 you buy to drive on beautiful evenings, but also to keep it tidy because you can feel in everything that this is a final installment in the 911 line.
