Model history

The Porsche 996 Carrera 4 was introduced in 1998 as part of the fifth generation of the Porsche 911 and marked a significant turning point in the model's history. For the first time, Porsche used a water-cooled engine instead of the traditional air-cooled power unit, resulting in improved performance and better cooling. The Carrera 4 offered all-wheel drive, which significantly improved traction and stability, especially in adverse weather conditions. Externally, the 996 differed in its new front end with the characteristic "fried egg" headlights. During its production run, the model underwent several technical and visual revisions, including a performance upgrade.
