Engine and Performance
Compared to the base Carrera, the Carrera S features a more powerful and larger-displacement engine:
- Engine: 3.8-liter naturally aspirated flat-six
- Power: 355 hp (261 kW) at 6,600 rpm
- Torque: 400 Nm at 4,600 rpm
- Acceleration: 0–100 km/h in approx. 4.7 seconds (manual transmission)
- Top speed: Approx. 293–300 km/h
- Power delivery: Strong and responsive from 2,000–3,000 rpm, becoming distinctly sporty above 4,000 rpm
Mechanics and Chassis
The 2006 model introduced several technologies that significantly improved driving dynamics compared to the standard Carrera:
- PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management): Standard on the Carrera S, allowing electronic adjustment between Normal and Sport modes
- Ride height: Lowered by 10 mm compared to the standard Carrera for improved cornering stability
- Steering: Hydraulic steering system offering direct, “old-school” feedback compared to later electronic systems
- Brakes: 330 mm drilled and ventilated discs front and rear, with fixed 4-piston calipers (often painted red)
Exterior and Wheels
The 2006 Porsche 997 marked the return to the classic round headlights, moving away from the “fried-egg” design of the 996.
- Wheels: 19-inch Carrera S alloy wheels (standard)
- Tires: 235/35 R19 front and 295/30 R19 rear (some versions feature 305 rear tires)
- Dimensions:
- Length: 4,427 mm
- Width: 1,808 mm
- Height: 1,300 mm
Interior and Comfort
The 997 generation represented a significant step forward in terms of material quality and interior refinement:
- Interior: Leather upholstery available in various color combinations (common options include black, sand beige, or grey)
- Technology: Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with navigation, often paired with the Bose sound system
