Porsche rightfully celebrates its vaunted heritage by offering its most dedicated followers limited-production models inspired by their most beloved and sought-after historical creations. Cars like the 911 R, the several generations of Speedsters, and the original type 997 Sport Classic have all offered modern performance with a dash of vintage panache.
Revealed at the 2009 Frankfort Motor Show, the first iteration of the Sport Classic was exclusively offered to just 250 individuals in the European market to celebrate the 911’s 45th anniversary. The 911 Sport Classic is instantly recognizable with its iconic RS-inspired ducktail spoiler, Fuchs-style alloy wheels, and distinctive Zagato-style “double-bubble” roof. The Sport Classic Grey paintwork with subtle grey stripes is exclusive to the model and pairs beautifully with the Espresso leather interior. Suffice to say that even the uninitiated can detect that a Sport Classic is no ordinary 911.
However, it is in less obvious details where the engineering pedigree of the Sport Classic reveals itself, whether it be the unique combination of the wider Carrera 4S bodywork on a rear-wheel drive chassis or the standard fitment of the type 997.2 Sport Chassis pack, Power Pack, and carbon ceramic brakes. Even the six-speed manual gearbox received a short-shift kit to produce a more rewarding action.
