The vehicle in detail

During the second half of the 1980s, RUF captured the attention of virtually every high-performance sports car enthusiast with its iconic Yellow Bird. A new decade brought a new 911—”85% new” in fact—and this 964-generation 911 would serve as the basis for the new RUF RCT (RUF Carrera Turbo).

Like many RUFs, the RCT’s engine is the star. A turbocharged and air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six with Bosch-Motronic engine management develops 370 horsepower and a whopping 490 Nm (395 lb-ft) of torque, channeled through a RUF exhaust system. A RUF-designed six-speed manual transmission sends the power to the road via 18-inch RUF-Speedline wheels. While focused on the engine, Alois Ruf didn’t neglect the rest of the car. The brakes, suspension, and aerodynamics were all upgraded, each a “must-have” at the speeds the RCT can reach. Indeed, Road & Track stated in December 1993: “You can push the RCT hard, deep into a corner, and just when you expect it to lighten up, the car plants its tires and holds a flawless line.” Nothing is done gently, but for such a pure machine, there’s no reason why it should be.”

According to the RUF team, this example is the only RCT built from a Carrera 964 RS NGT. There are a few models built on a 964 RS “Leichtbau” base, but none, to our knowledge, based on this radical NGT.

For your information, the RS NGT version, with its specific chassis numbers, was produced in 290 units for a championship that never saw the light of day.

Porsche enthusiasts know that the Carrera RS’s monocoque body was fully welded for increased rigidity and delivered without an underbody to reduce weight. Based on the sporty “NGT” version, our model features an aluminum front hood, thin-glass rear and side windows, no insulation, and a lighter wiring harness. Weight has also been reduced thanks to the installation of lightweight door panels, manual mirrors, crank windows, and the absence of carpeting. The car is finished in Grand Prix White (ref. 908), with Recaro Pole Position seats. RUF customized the interior with specific door sills, a classic three-spoke steering wheel, a six-speed gear lever, and, of course, a speedometer graduated up to 350 km/h!
The car is equipped with its original engine and gearbox, modified in 1994 by RUF.

In 2022, I acquired this Porsche 964 RS NGT RUF RCT from a well-known German professional.

In 2024, the car underwent a major service at RUF (invoice) at 40,042 kilometers, during which it was fitted with new 18-inch RUF wheels.

To date, it has 42,577 km.
