Today, the first-generation Porsche 996 GT2 is one of the most purist and uncompromising water-cooled 911 models. Based on the Porsche 996 Turbo, the GT2 did without all-wheel drive and was offered exclusively with rear-wheel drive and manual transmission. The technology of the Porsche 996.1 GT2

The Porsche 996.1 GT2 was offered from model year 2001 and is technically based on the Porsche 996 Turbo. The model is powered by a 3.6 liter Biturbo Boxer engine with 462 hp. Power is transmitted exclusively via a manual 6-speed gearbox to the rear axle.

Compared to the 996 Turbo, Porsche deliberately dispensed with all-wheel drive in order to save weight and create a much more direct driving experience. In addition, the GT2 was given its own aerodynamics with a fixed rear wing, specific front apron and widened Turbo bodywork.
