Doubly iconic – “Jubi” and “Miami Vice” Turbo in the glory of the late 80s
The late 1980s – an era full of contrasts: Seinfeld, The Simpsons and Baywatch hit television. Roxette, Madonna, and Phil Collins were played repeatedly on the radio. The streets were dominated by edgy cars with wide fenders. Among the dream cars, the Porsche 911 reigned supreme in its last classic form – the G-Model. Porsche’s spearhead of this era was undoubtedly the 911 Turbo 3.3 – a last gasp of the series. At virtually the same time, there was also the Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 “25 Years of 911” anniversary model. In German, it’s called “Jubiläumsmodell” – hence the “Jubi” nickname. Both embody the spirit of the 80s like few other sports cars, especially as convertibles. Philipp Göller has brought these two rarities together at Autohaus Stefan. The Baden native invited us on a little trip back in time.
Open-top Porsche highlights of the late 80s
One might think that Philipp Göller has a special knack for finding iconic Porsche duos. Having already tracked down two perfectly preserved 964 Turbo 3.6s, he now has two open-top G-Model highlights in his showroom. One is a Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 “25 Years of 911” Cabriole, the other a 911 Turbo 3.3 Cabrio in an extremely exciting color combination.

Two rare, open-top G-Models, both original, both with their own history – that’s a piece of automotive magic.

The anniversary classic – Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 “25 Years of 911” Cabriolet
First, we turn our attention to the elegant Jubi. It is 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 “25 Years of 911”. It is one of only 875 Jubis built in total and one of only 43 Euro-spec Cabriolets! The anniversary 911 pays homage to a quarter of a century of the sports car icon that is the Porsche 911. This convertible features dark blue metallic paintwork over pearl gray leather. It’s complemented by Fuchs rims painted in dark blue metallic as well. With just 35,000 kilometers on the clock, the car is in unrestored original condition.
A 911 that (almost) everyone likes: the contrast between the dark blue paintwork and pearl gray leather in the 911 Carrera 3.2 “25 Years of 911” is simply timelessly beautiful.
Nevertheless, Philipp Göller and his team have carefully refurbished the Jubi, both technically and visually. “We have given the car a comprehensive service. Belts, dampers, brakes, and many other parts have been replaced so that the Jubi feels exactly as it should,” explains Göller. Even small details such as a missing glove compartment light were not overlooked. “The car has been refurbished so that no maintenance is required and it can be driven as it is.”
Even back in the day, the Jubi was a G-Model best of – elegant, high-quality, and technically sophisticated. That’s why it’s so sought after today. Especially when it’s a car with such low mileage in pristine original condition. Vehicles like this are virtually extinct.

The rare Carrera 3.2 “Jubi” is impressive to drive anyway. It represents a recipe that has been refined for two and a half decades. Thanks to its wonderfully smooth G50 transmission and what was, at the time, a full range of features, including air conditioning and electric windows, it is a charming companion for Sunday outings in fine weather. Especially with the roof open, the sound of the naturally aspirated engine is a real joy. The Jubi, now almost 40 years old itself, is still as much fun as it was on the first day!
A legend in Cassis red – Porsche 930 Turbo 3.3 “Miami Vice” Cabriolet
The Porsche 930 Turbo 3.3, which is one year older, has a more striking color scheme. Its cassis red exterior inevitably conjures up an image in my mind: The Turbo parked in front of an American movie theater at night, bathed in bright neon light. Its wider body with deep-dish Fuchs rims and the large whale tail give a hint of the brute force slumbering under the rear hood. No wonder that this Turbo’s spec with its yellowish-beige interior is reported to have had a very special nickname in Zuffenhausen.

This Turbo has only 51,700 kilometers on the odometer and two previous owners. With its new soft top and recent inspection at Porsche, it feels fresh and crisp. At the same time, you can’t help but feel a sense of respect as soon as you get in. After all, apart from proper supercars, 300 hp and rear-wheel drive were hard to beat in the 1980s.
When a cassis red Porsche 930 Turbo 3.3 Cabriolet with a beige leather interior pulls up, it’s like a scene from an 80s movie. It’s fitting, that there’s a rumor, this was called “Miami Vice spec” in the Porsche factory back in the day. Although only the longest-serving Porsche employees might know if it’s actually true.

Compared to the elegant Jubi, the “Miami Vice Porsche” naturally commands a great deal of respect. Although the turbo lag is less pronounced than in its predecessor, this 930 really packs a punch, especially in the upper half of the rev range. As one of the last models with a 4-speed manual transmission, it still embodies some of the spirit of the colorful 70s. Incidentally, the Turbo is also an extremely rare model. Only 918 units were produced in the 1987 and 1988 model years.
Summit of the G-Models – Elegant Jubi or sheer Turbo force for you?
Both convertibles date from the final phase of the G-Model – the last 911 series with truly classic lines before the more modern 964 in terms of appearance and technology. The anniversary 911 embodies the most elegant interpretation of the Carrera 3.2, while the Turbo offered ultimate performance and prestige of this era. Together, they represent the pinnacle of a legendary era: the 911 as it is anchored in the minds of an entire generation – open, powerful, charismatic. A duo that makes collectors’ hearts beat faster and at the same time exudes the lifestyle of the late 1980s.
It’s not easy to pick one over the other. Objectively speaking, the Turbo is the faster, more desirable car. But the sleeker lines of the Jubi without the large Turbo spoiler make it look more elegant – and perhaps more likable to the laymen?!
