Elferspot Market Report – Q2/2023

We are now offering the new Elferspot Market Report as an exclusive service for you, our dealers. We summarize interesting developments on the market for used Porsche sports cars. Clearly presented. To the point.

For the second quarter of 2023, we look at the click rates for some selected model series. They provide a very direct indicator of the interest generated by certain Porsche models.

Total number of listing views remains at a a high level

In contrast to the previous Market Report for Q1/2023, which evaluated search patterns, this report focuses purely on the listings’ impressions. It is irrelevant where the click on the listing came from. Be it via search, via social media postings, direct sharing of links or also from external sources.

Disclaimer: Although we sum up the views in absolute terms and per vehicle, the influence of magazine articles and social postings can cause spikes. Nevertheless, they are a good tool for user interest.

Views on listed cars have increased by over 20 percent compared to the previous year. Interest in used Porsche sports cars continues unabated.

In Q1/2023, we recorded 3.87 million views on listed Porsche sports cars. Compared with the first quarter of 2022, this is an increase of 0.94 million views, or 32 percent. In Q2/2023, there were slightly less views on listed cars on Elferspot with 3.7 million clicks. The comparison to the same quarter last year with 3.06 million views shows an increase of 0.64 million clicks, or 20.9 percent. One possible approach to the slight 4.4 percent drop in hits from Q1/2023 to Q2/2023 could be that 2023 was the first time since 2019 that the majority of the open season began without Corona measures.

Most-clicked model series on Elferspot – Porsche 993 maintains top position, G-Model and 964 leave 997 behind

As in the first quarter of 2023, vehicles from the Porsche 993 series hold their own as the most frequently accessed models. Over 443,000 views, i.e. 11.98 percent of all clicks in Q2/2023, are attributable to the last air-cooled 911. With around 437,000 views (11.82 percent), however, the Porsche 911 G-Model is close on its heels. Like the 964 with 420,000 clicks and an 11.36 percent share, it has left the 997 behind. The second water-cooled Porsche 911 still brings it to around 417,000 views and 11.27 percent of all vehicle views.

While the total number of vehicle impressions has declined only marginally at 4.4 percent, there are more cars on the market and thus fewer clicks per advertised vehicle.

The biggest winner in the ranking is the Porsche Boxster or Cayman of the 987 series, where we recorded 31.82 percent more clicks in Q2/2023 than in the first three months of the year (25,600, compared to 20,300 views). Porsche 911 Backdate/Modified also gained in favor with our users. With almost 287,000 clicks, 25,000 more views were registered than in the first quarter. This corresponds to an increase of 16.3 percent.

Vehicle supply increases overall, clicks per listing slightly lower

If we look at the total clicks per model series, taking into account the number of Porsche sports cars on offer, we also see a slightly declining rate. While the Porsche 987 declined only marginally from an average of 362 views per listing in Q1/2023 to 356 clicks per vehicle, the other model series lost somewhat more ground.

The Porsche 964 fell by approximately 11.66 percent with 1,496 vs. 1,693 clicks per listed car. The picture is similar for the 997 (831 to 931, down 10.78 percent) and Porsche 911 Backdate/Modifieds (1,429 instead of 1,589 clicks per listing, minus 10.09 percent). Despite stable overall click rates, Porsche 993 and G-Model listings lost lost more ground per offered car. However, with an average of 1,403 instead of 1,676 clicks for the 993 and 970 instead of 1,248 clicks for the G-Model, both are still at a very high level.

The distribution of views among the most popular model series is relatively constant. However, Porsche 911 Backdates/Modifieds are gaining in favor with users.

A high quality of listing, combined with many good photos pays off

If we put these figures into perspective, there is basically no sign of generally waning interest Porsche sports cars. This is pretty clear, considering the total number of views remained at a stable, high level in the second quarter. However, more cars are simply being offered at the same time. The increase in supply ranges from 7.04 percent for the 997 to 29.6 percent for the 911 G-Model.

For dealers, this means that competition is increasing. In addition to the right pricing, the presentation of the vehicles is therefore becoming considerably more important. The higher the quality of the listing, the more views and potential buyers it attracts.

In addition to detailed descriptions of the condition and careful compilation of the history, the visual presentation is therefore becoming even more important. High-quality, atmospheric photos in good resolution and with great detail are invaluable here. Because great pictures generate more attention and buying interest not only in the search itself, but also in social networks.
