In the 1990s, it was hard to get past a presenter on German television. Kai Pflaume guided viewers through shows like “Nur die Liebe zählt,” or the “Glücksspirale.” Today, his YouTube channel “Ehrenpflaume” is one of the hottest German formats with over 650,000 subscribers. And even back then it was clear that Kai Pflaume preferred to drive Porsches. The first Kai Pflaume Porsche, an arctic silver Porsche 993 Targa, is now to find a new owner. Our partner MyCarmunity offers Pflaume’s ex-993.
In 1993, Kai Pflaume got his first job as a presenter. He became known in Germany through the show “Nur die Liebe zählt” (Only Love Counts). Pflaume, who was born in Halle (Saale), achieved his final breakthrough in 1996. At that time, hardly any TV-host was more present on German television than he. Since then, he has won numerous awards. Pflaume, for example, received a Bambi and a Golden Camera as well as the Bavarian Order of Merit.
In 1997, Kai Pflaume fulfilled a long-cherished dream. He ordered this 993 Targa, his first Porsche, from the Porsche Center in Munich. This is evidenced by the old registration documents available to the MyCarmunity auction house. Pflaume drove the Porsche 911 Targa privately for a year. In 1998, he transferred the vehicle to his company. In October 1999, Pflaume sold the vehicle to another well-known Munich entrepreneur. After two further sales, the vehicle ended up in the hands of its current owner. So it is a four-owner car. It is not known how many of the more than 167,000 kilometers Kai Pflaume himself drove in the car.
In addition to the arctic silver paint job, Pflaume also chose a timeless color for the interior. Black, heated Raff leather seating with electronic adjustment made the car classically elegant. Pflaume also ordered silver accents on the shift lever, handbrake lever and door sill trim (equipment codes X70, X97 & X98). To make the manual Targa a proper driver’s car, it received a limited-slip differential with 40% locking action, the digital sound package and a navigation system integrated into the radio. Rounding out the equipment are Litronic headlights. So the presenter configured himself a tasteful driver-focused car without putting everyday utility at the back of the list.
“Driving off the lot in your own Porsche for the first time is like having your first girlfriend. It’s a legend. You don’t forget that.”

That’s not surprising. After all, Kai Pflaume is known as an absolute petrolhead. Just recently, the presenter was on the road for three days with Audi at the Dakar Rally. He also never made a secret of his passion in other ways. In an interview with the German newspaper Welt, Kai Pflaume said, when asked about the Porsche 993 Targa for sale here, “Driving off the lot in your own Porsche for the first time is like having your first girlfriend. A legend. You don’t forget that”. After the 993, Kai Pflaume also had a Porsche 996 Carrera 4S, among others.
However, the story of the Kai Pflaume Porsche recently had a sad climax. The 993, which has been in the possession of the current owner since 2019, suffered a water ingress in 2021 as a result of the Ahr Valley flood. It was parked in a garage in neighboring Rheinbach. Only a slight flood occurred there. Water up to a height of approx. 50 cm penetrated the building. Fortunately, the damage was limited. Most of the damage was to electrical components, such as control units.
All of the damage was completely repaired, with invoices and photos proving the work. The vehicle was partially dismantled so that the interior could also be completely cleaned. Kai Pflaume’s first Porsche is therefore fully functional again. The service booklet and a whole bunch of invoices for the vehicle are available. However, the revitalized Targa is now to move into a new garage. Actually, the owner wanted to keep it in his collection. But the high repair costs for the reconstruction of his house, which was also damaged by the flood, make the sale necessary.
That is why Kai Pflaume’s first Porsche is now going under the hammer. As of February 2023, the market value of a well-maintained Porsche 993 Targa is just under 100,000 euros. While a prominent previous ownership tends to be seen as increasing the value, the sad history from the recent past rather speaks against it. Especially since the vehicle has been repainted in some places.
The auction at our partner MyCarmunity starts on 05.03.2023. Two weeks later, on 19.03.2023 at 21:00 Central European Time the result will be determined. We are very curious to see what price this Porsche 993 Targa will achieve in the end. In any case, its history is interesting, albeit with a bit of a gamble.
