Elferspot Market Report – 993, Boxster and Cayman in high demand

2025 is a very difficult year for the automotive industry. Porsche expects profits to plummet by over 90 percent, demand in China is falling dramatically. But what about the used Porsche market? Does the decline in new car sales also have an impact on the value development and sales of pre-owned Porsche sports cars? This time, our Elferspot Market Report takes a closer look at two very different areas of our marketplace. We look at the development of click and sales data for the last air-cooled 911 series, the Porsche 993, as well as the figures for the four generations of Porsche Boxster and three generations of Cayman. How has interest developed over the last twelve months? Find out this and more in the Elferspot Market Report for Q3/2025.

The last air-cooled 911 as a safe bet – Porsche 993

Over the past ten years, the Porsche used car market has seen first the 911 G-Model and later the 964 take buyers by storm. Both came from periods when they were less popular, so to speak. Above them, the 993 has always reigned supreme as the last of its kind – the last air-cooled Porsche 911 ever. Instead of the meteoric rise of the 964, which in certain configurations is even more expensive than its 993 equivalent, the Porsche 993 was more of a low-key choice. Loss of value? Unlikely.

The Porsche 993 became particularly popular with users in the third quarter of 2025.

In the ranking of the most sought-after series on Elferspot, the 993 ranks third this year, just behind the Porsche 964 and 997. However, the number of views per listing for the 993 was highest in the past quarter. With an average of over 1,750 views per listing, it clearly outperforms vehicles in the 964 series. Its predecessor averages 1,590 clicks per listing. Compared to the same quarter last year, this represents an increase of over 11 percent in views per 993. This indicates greater interest and demand for this model series.

In the last quarter, the 993 replaced the previous leader, the 964, in terms of views per listed vehicle.

Porsche 993 sell faster in Europe in 2025 – Carrera 4S with significant increase in value

This increased interest is also reflected in the days on market (DOM). Although Porsche 993s were already among the models that found new garages the fastest, in 2025 the 911s from the 1993 to 1997 model years sold like hotcakes. Within the EU, the median DOM was around 26 days – a full eleven days faster than in the previous year.

regionmedian DOM 2024median DOM 2025change
European Union37 days26 days-11 days
Great Britain65 days41 days-24 days
North America30 days41 days+11 days

The United Kingdom and North America are slightly above this, at 41 days each. While this means that North American sellers need to be patient for around eleven days longer than last year, UK sales have accelerated by 24 days. Swiss customers seem to be particularly fond of the last air-cooled 911s. Here, Porsche 993s were marked as sold after less than 15 days on average. This is also consistent with other regions around the globe, where the median DOM sits at 18 days.

While most Porsche 993 models show relatively stable, slightly rising prices, the 993 Carrera 4S stands out significantly. Just a year ago, the average asking price for the widebody 993 in Europe was around €125,000. In 2025, prices are more likely to be in the region of €142,500 – representing a 14 percent increase in value in just one year. Since 2021, the 993 C4S has recorded an increase in value of almost 28 percent. The low production numbers – only 6,948 993 Carrera 4S models were built in total – continue to meet with high demand.

Boxster and Cayman on the rise

This comes as little surprise to fans and connoisseurs. In the slipstream of the 911 series, there are exciting developments on the used market for Porsche’s mid-engine sports cars. Two model series in particular are enjoying increasing popularity: Porsche’s first Boxster, the 986, and the 981, built between 2012 and 2016. They recorded around ten and four percent more clicks per ad, respectively, than in the same quarter last year. Although the 987 lost an average of 46 clicks in this metric, it remains the undisputed leader. While the 982 series ranked second in the Cayman/Boxster popularity ranking last year, it ranks last in 2025.

However, sales are undoubtedly more important than clicks. And here, too, the Boxster and Cayman seem to be finding more and more fans. This is because the time between listing and sale has shortened dramatically in some cases over the last quarter. Porsche 986 models recorded median sales that were 23 percent faster in Europe compared to the same quarter last year, while 981 models were even 49 percent faster. In North America, the 987 and 981 in particular are more in demand than a year ago. And while the 982 is also selling about 14 percent faster in Europe than in 2024, in North America it sometimes takes considerably more patience.

The Cayman GT4 models continue to be exempt from major fluctuations. Whether 981 or 982, they retain their value and are selling significantly faster than before, especially in Europe. High demand for 981 models has halved the average selling time in Europe to 25 days and in North America to just 16 days. Although the 982 Cayman GT4 suffered a minimal loss in value of just under 10 percent on average, it is selling relatively quickly. In North America, it takes 43 days, and in Europe, only 36.

Continued high demand for Porsche sports cars

Looking across all model series, the median sales periods in all regions are below the previous year’s figures. This means that Porsche sports cars are selling even faster than a year ago in all markets. One consequence of the “faster turnover” of the car inventory is also a general increase in the number of vehicles sold.

Contrary to the sometimes touted cooling of the market, we were able to register almost 50 percent more vehicles sold in the third quarter of 2025 than in the same quarter of the previous year. However, this increase is not only due to the growth in supply on the platform itself. The ratio of active listings to vehicles sold during the period is 34 percent, which is about 1.5 percent above the previous year’s figure. As a result, demand for used Porsche sports cars remains steady.
