Porsche 356 B 1600 Super

The Porsche 356 was the first car of the German Porsche brand. Conceived by Ferry Porsche on the mechanical bases of the Volkswagen Beetle (for the sake of economy) and designed by Erwin Komenda, it will be produced in series from 1948 to 1965.

With the 1960 model year, the 356 A was replaced by the completely redesigned 356 B (T5). Its power ranged from 60 hp for the 356 B 1600 to 140 hp for the 356 B 2000 GS-GT Carrera 2.

The B-Series was distinguished from its predecessor from a visual point of view, among others, by its front bumper with higher positioning of approx. ten centimeters equipped with bumper bumpers widened, as well as headlights also positioned higher. The alarm grilles located next to the outward-pointing turn signals were flatter and had two chrome strips. In addition, the handle of the front cover widened downward. The two license plate lights were integrated into the rear bumper positioned higher, the reversing lights were mounted under the bumper.

With the model year 1962 (T6), the 356 B was equipped with a front cover widening sharply downwards, as well as a tank hatch located in the right front wing. Two vertical air inlet grilles were integrated into the enlarged front cover.

All generations of 356 were also available in an « open » version (Convertible, Speedster or Roadster).

The particularly sporty variants have received, from type 365 A, the additional designation of « Carrera » and were powered by a Fuhrmann engine.
