Ever since the arrival of Porsche Cayman in 2006, many enthusiasts have boasted about the excellent driving dynamics delivered from the mid-engine, two-seater coupe. Despite the impressive performance, enthusiasts have long suspected that Porsche would restrict the Cayman’s ultimate performance as to never outshine the 911. That would change around 2015 when Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche’s GT department, was tempted by Porsche R&D chief Wolfgang Hat into figuring out how to fit a GT3 engine into a Cayman GT4. As told in an interview with Top Gear, the idea remained, and later Preuninger would later revisit the idea and decided to surprise Hatz with the first GT3-engined Cayman test vehicle at his upcoming birthday.

Evolving into the full production Cayman GT4 RS that we know today, it is very easy to see how even two individuals so well versed in Porsche became enamored with their latest creation. Featuring everything on Porsche’s menu to distinguish a true RennSport model, the Cayman GT4 RS utilizes lightweight construction, additional downforce, higher engine power and, of course, more direct handling. Powered by a 4.0-liter, six-cylinder engine producing 493 horsepower, this naturally-aspirated powerplant is a symphony of mechanical greatness, enhanced by the functional side air intakes and glorious 9,000 RPM redline. After extensive road testing by Car and Driver, a verdict was reached that this is “The no-compromise Cayman we’ve all been waiting for.”

Displaying just under 1,800 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloging, this single-owner 2023 Porsche Cayman GT4 RS is finished in a stunning Arctic Grey exterior with many desirable options such as the $13,500 Weissach Package with exposed carbon fiber front trunk lid, side air intakes, exterior mirrors, and rear wing. Further enhanced with 20-inch forged aluminum wheels painted in Satin Neodyme finish and $8,000 Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), the striking specification of this example perfectly suits the sporting the nature of the model. Representing a first for Porsche, the GT4 RS has already become highly coveted by enthusiasts and is likely to remain as one of the most popular, highest performing Cayman variants ever created.
