Porsche 911

At the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche unveiled its prototype n°5 called « 901 ». But at the official launch of its new GT in October 1964, Porsche must rename them 911 because Peugeot had already filed all the names with three digits with a 0 in the middle.

Thus, at the end of 1964, the first 911s will be marketed, equipped with a 6-cylinder of 1991 cc developing 130 hp. The weight of the car is contained to 1080 kilos. The first series of 911, known as Program O, will be produced until July 1967, with a production sequence going up in time and an overall production of less than 8,000 cars.

The first 911s are the famous short chassis (SWB) with a wheelbase of 2211 mm, which will be increased to 2268 mm in August 1967. Many aesthetic details are specific to the first 911s. The rims are 4.5 inches wide and 15 inches in diameter steel with 165/80/15 tires. They can optionally receive a colored center logo and on another free option can be chrome plated.

The month of October 1966 will see the appearance of the S (Super) version developing 160 hp and the month of December will see the appearance of the Targa version.
