In lieu of the 911 Turbo model which had been mired by changing emissions regulations in the United States, Porsche began offering a “Turbo Look” appearance package on the new 3.2-liter 911 Carrera in 1984. Option code M491 bestowed the Carrera with flared rear fender and a “tea tray” rear spoiler largely identical to those on the 911 Turbo as well as the upgraded Turbo trailing arms, Turbo four-piston disc brakes, and wider Fuchs wheels as equipped on the Turbo. From 1985, as rumors began swirling that the 911 Turbo’s return to the US was on the horizon, the Turbo Look package was made available on all three body styles: Coupe, Cabriolet and Targa.

Returning in 1986, the 911 Turbo’s unmistakably wide, aggressive stance had proved popular in its absence, with most Turbo Look examples being sold between 1984-85, but remaining available until 1989. The 3.2-liter Carrera, produced from 1984-1989, remains the most popular Porsche 911 model of all time with over 76,000 built in total, making Turbo Look examples a distinctive and rare variant of an iconic Porsche. Today, they remain highly sought after for their one-of-a-kind appearance and bump in performance over the standard Carrera.

This sporting 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is one of approximately 1,684 examples optioned with the Turbo Look appearance package. Finished in Silver Metallic (S7) paintwork with a Black (V9) soft top and Black (VD) leather interior, the Cabriolet also boasts a lengthy list of additional factory options including: sports seats with electric height adjustment left and right, heated seats left and right, steering wheel with raised hub, central locking system, limited-slip differential, power operated top, cruise control, standard Blaupunkt radio, CD shelf center console, alarm system, and matching Black tonneau cover.

Offered with just over 20,000 miles on the odometer at the time of cataloging, this uncommon Carrera variant offers a distinctive wide-body appearance and all the advantages of an open-top Porsche 911.
