For 1979, with safety and emissions standards growing ever tougher and discerning buyers more particular, Porsche brought a slew of updates to the 911 to increase its reliability without sacrificing performance. To do so, they used fully galvanized body shells to protect against rust, updated the interior, and, perhaps most importantly, revised the 2.7 Liter Flat-6 to produce more low-RPM torque by increasing its displacement to 3.0 Liters. The result impressed both critics and customers alike, hailing the motor’s free-revving tendency and the car’s exceptional handling.
